Family Prayer Cards

Every Christmas, we get Christmas cards from friends and family. Each year, I keep the cards, but they end up in a box or somewhere stored away. This year, I realized I wanted to do something useful with the cards that would also help us to remember to pray for our family and friends.

Since the cards are all different sizes, I knew that it wouldn't work to simply slip them all in an single 4x6 photo album. I picked up a pack of silver binder rings from my office supply store and used one of them to put all the cards on. I hole punched all the cards in the top left-hand corner and slipped them all onto the ring.

I hung the binder ring with all the cards on it onto a hook that is on the wall next to our dinner table. Each night at dinner, we flip to a new card and pray for that person or family that day. It's been incredible to see our 2-year-old remind me each time we sit down to the table for a meal to pray for someone. It has really heightened a sense of community with those we love as they are brought to mind often even though they may live far away.

I love this idea! We did something similar this year. I just grabbed an old but unused spiral notebook and taped a Christmas photo card to each page. Every night when the kids go to bed they pick a page and we pray for the family/person on it. Under the picture we write down the date and what we prayed. It's cool to go back and highlight the answered prayers. We've seen God answer a lot of prayers and it's only May!
Love the key ring idea though. Might have to do that next year. Miss you, friend!
